Abstract

Data science for micro and small business: what do we need and how can the accounting help: Micro and small businesses increasingly recognize the value of data-driven decision-making but often lack the resources, infrastructure, and analytical skills to transform information into strategic insight. This presentation explores how data science can be adapted to the realities of small enterprises and how accounting professionals can play a key role in this process. Rather than focusing solely on advanced analytics or big data, the discussion emphasizes accessible tools, relevant indicators, and the integration of financial and non-financial data for performance management. By bridging the gap between accounting and data science, accountants can help small business owners move from intuition-based to evidence-based decisions, improving efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability. The session will outline practical approaches, present illustrative cases, and propose a framework for collaboration between accountants, data analysts, and entrepreneurs.
