Abstract
Technological Advancement and Digital Interventions: Mental Healthcare Services for Malaysian Youth
Abstract:
Recent research showed an increased prevalence in psychological disorders among many of the younger population. Given the rise in suicide rates as a result, it is imperative to take measures to lower the prevalence of it. While a wide range of treatments are included in mental health services with the goal of enhancing individual welfare, technology advancements and digital interventions are components of this. Numerous research carried out in Western countries shows that both initiatives may help society in several ways, though Malaysia has yet to experience such digital mental healthcare services for youth. Hence, the current research identified how young adults explored their knowledge and demands towards the use of technology and digital interventions in mental healthcare services. The aim was also to expose youth?s perception on how important the technology and digital interventions as strategies in reducing the occurrence of psychological disorders. Five participants were recruited in this qualitative study and a phenomenological design was utilised to conduct a semi structured interview with thematic analysis used to analyse data. Findings through thirteen main dimensions based on axial coding showed positive feedback for the use of technology advancement and digital interventions, which in turn increased the usage of such interventions and considered to be potential to reduce the psychological disorders among the young adults. Several implications and limitations were also discussed, which can be useful suggestions for future research.
