Dr. Mirela Newsome, MD, MRCPsych, FRANZCP is a New Zealand-based Consultant Psychiatrist with over 25 years of experience in General Adult Psychiatry. She currently practices at the West 1 Community Mental Health Team under the Waitemata District Health Board in Auckland. A British-trained psychiatrist, Dr. Newsome holds vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council and previously with the UK?s GMC. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK. Her clinical expertise includes personality disorders, perinatal psychiatry, trans-cultural psychiatry, and mental health service development. She has led and contributed to innovative projects such as perinatal pathways, nurse-led discharge models, and service user development strategies in both the UK and New Zealand. Dr. Newsome was a key figure in the Personality Disorder Hub at 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Trust and is a certified KUF (Knowledge and Understanding Framework) trainer in personality disorders. Passionate about education and change leadership, she has facilitated numerous workshops and taught medical students, junior doctors, and multi-disciplinary teams. Her research includes schema-based interventions, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and psychopharmacological trials in bipolar disorder. Known for her compassionate leadership and strong communication skills, Dr. Newsome is committed to empowering teams, enhancing patient care, and shaping innovative, sustainable mental health services.
