Biography

Dr. Pooja Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi, India. She holds an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and a Ph.D. in Energy Studies from JNU?s School of International Studies, focusing on the role of renewables in energy transition (a comparative study of India and Norway). She was also a Ph.D. Research Fellow at the University of Agder, Norway. Her academic specialization includes environmental economics, econometrics, renewable energy, energy security, and sustainability. She has extensive research experience through projects funded by bodies like the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI). Dr. Sharma has authored numerous research articles, book chapters, and conference papers, and has contributed significantly to e-content development for national education platforms. Her professional engagements span international collaborations, policy analysis, and interdisciplinary projects aimed at addressing climate change, energy policy, and sustainable development.

Abstract

Mapping Waste Generation System in Minicoy: Its Challenges, Issues, and Way Forward The study addresses the increasing vulnerabilities of coastal regions due to climate change, urbanization, and modernization, with a particular focus on waste disposal challenges. In Minicoy, the research maps the waste segregation methods involving stakeholders such as disposal service providers, employed personnel, state and non-state agencies. The current state of waste generation is analyzed, and key issues are identified. Using purposive sampling and structured questionnaires, 35?40 stakeholders were interviewed to understand waste segregation processes and to strategize improved disposal systems.
