Analysis of the clay mineral composition and non-clay mineral composition of a specific type of brick clay found in Sri Lanka.
The study focuses on the clay and non-clay mineral composition of a specific type of clay found in Sri Lanka, particularly from the Maduragoda region, which is used in brick production. Through X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry, the research identifies key minerals in the clay, including quartz, anatase, magnetite, hematite, and the clay minerals kaolinite and montmorillonite. These minerals exhibit significant potential for industrial applications, such as adsorption and sorption of heavy metals, toxic ions, and organic pollutants, as well as use in the production of nano-pallets and nano-particles for construction materials, reactors, and water treatment systems. This study highlights the diverse industrial utility and efficiency of this Sri Lankan clay.
