Abstract

The impact of sugar consumption on women's health during the pre-menopausal period and nursing care in the management of risk factors Introduction: The pre-menopausal period is characterized by gradual hormonal changes that affect women?s metabolic, emotional, and cardiovascular health. High sugar consumption is identified as a risk factor for obesity, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases, which tend to increase during this phase. Nurses play a crucial role in prevention and management through health education, lifestyle promotion, and clinical monitoring. Aim: This rishikim aims to explore the impact of sugar consumption on women?s health during pre-menopause and to analyze the role of nursing care in reducing risk factors. Methodology: This is a literature rishikim based on research articles published between 2000?2025 in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Studies in English and Albanian were included, focusing on: (1) hormonal changes in pre-menopause; (2) the impact of sugar consumption on metabolic health; (3) nursing interventions in this stage. Main findings: Evidence shows that high sugar intake is associated with weight gain, worsened insulin sensitivity, increased fatigue and mood changes, and higher risk of cardiometabolic conditions. Conversely, nursing care, particularly through nutritional counseling and educational interventions, has shown effectiveness in reducing sugar consumption and improving overall health in pre-menopausal women. Conclusion: Sugar consumption directly impacts the quality of life and health of women during pre-menopause. Nursing care plays a vital role in risk management and health promotion through education and continuous monitoring. A multidisciplinary approach is recommended to reduce sugar intake and support women during this transitional phase. Keywords: pre-menopause, sugar, nursing care, metabolism, health education.
