Abstract

Generative AI Tools for Cybersecurity Research: From Data Synthesis to Threat Simulation
The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is revolutionizing the landscape of cybersecurity research, enabling unprecedented capabilities in data synthesis, vulnerability modeling, and threat simulation. In this talk, Prof. Dr. Tariq Jamil Saifullah Khanzada explores the intersection of GenAI and cybersecurity, illustrating how these transformative tools are reshaping research paradigms and practical defenses in the digital age. Drawing from real-world case studies and ongoing projects, this session will delve into the use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), large language models (LLMs), and diffusion models for tasks such as generating synthetic cyberattack datasets, simulating phishing behaviors, modeling adversarial threats, and enhancing red team/blue team exercises. The talk also evaluates the emerging dual-use concerns of GenAI—where models may simultaneously empower defenders and enable sophisticated cyber threats.
