Various Architectural Uses of Date Palms
Sustainability is the ability to maintain the quality of life we live in the long term. This, in turn, depends on the conservation of the natural world and the responsible use of its resources. Palm oases and the use of palm parts are an important resource for maintaining a sustainable, healthy environment. The palm tree has been one of the most important components of life in the Arabian Gulf region since ancient times. The inhabitants of desert areas relied on it for most aspects of their lives and used it to construct most of their living facilities. Their uses for it were diverse, encompassing all parts of the palm tree. Unfortunately, most uses of date palm parts have disappeared, but there is a great opportunity to revive them in line with modern architecture. This presentation showcases studies and works that explore the diverse architectural uses of date palms, giving them a new dimension in terms of function and aesthetics.
