Abstract

Drug Addiction and Rehabilitation: Challenges and Opportunities for Recovery Drug addiction is a complex, chronic, and relapsing disorder with profound personal, social, and public health consequences. This presentation examines the multifaceted nature of substance use disorders, exploring biological, psychological, and socio-environmental factors that contribute to addiction. Emphasis is placed on the neurobiological basis of dependence, patterns of use, and the impact on individuals, families, and communities. The presentation also reviews evidence-based approaches to rehabilitation, including pharmacological treatments, behavioral therapies, harm reduction strategies, and holistic models of care. Challenges such as stigma, limited access to services, relapse risk, and co-occurring mental health conditions will be highlighted. Finally, the talk underscores the importance of integrated, patient-centered rehabilitation programs, community engagement, and policy-level interventions to support sustainable recovery and reintegration into society. By fostering awareness and collaboration among healthcare providers, policymakers, and communities, we can improve outcomes and reduce the burden of addiction.
