Intestinal Rehabilitation
Intestinal rehabilitation can include nutritional, medical, or surgical techniques to enhance your quality of life. It also allows many people to enjoy a normal, oral diet without the need for intravenous or enteral (tube feeding) nutrition.
Obesity or Bariatric Surgery
This is a medical condition characterized by excess body fat accumulation, to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health. It is typically measured using the body mass index (BMI), which is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. Obesity increases the risk of various health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders.
Clinical and Diagnostics
The process of identifying a disease, condition, or injury based on the signs and symptoms a patient is having and the patient's health history and physical exam. Further testing, such as blood tests, imaging tests, and biopsies, may be done after a clinical diagnosis is made.
Health and Wellness
Health is the state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease, or infirmity. Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.
Digestive Disorders
A digestive disease is any health problem that occurs in the digestive tract. Conditions may range from mild to serious. Some common problems include heartburn, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and lactose intolerance. Other digestive diseases include: Gallstones, cholecystitis, and cholangitis.
Gallbladder and Biliary Disease
Gallbladder stones are a very frequent condition that typically show no symptoms. Some patients have biliary colic, which is a condition where a gallstone causes temporary blockage of the cystic duct, resulting in sporadic, often intense pain in the right upper quadrant or epigastrium, and occasionally between the scapula. Cholecystitis, an acute inflammation and infection of the gallbladder, develops in the patient if the obstruction of the cystic duct continues.
Epigenetics and Cancer
Epigenetics refers to the changes in gene expression that occur without changes to the DNA sequence itself. These changes can be influenced by various factors, including environmental factors, lifestyle factors, and aging. Epigenetic changes can have significant effects on the development and progression of cancer. In cancer, epigenetic changes can lead to the activation of oncogenes, which promote cell growth and division, or the inactivation of tumor suppressor genes, which normally prevent abnormal cell growth. These changes can contribute to the development and progression of cancer. Recent research has focused on the development of epigenetic therapies for the treatment of cancer. These therapies aim to reverse the epigenetic changes that have occurred in cancer cells, leading to the reactivation of tumor suppressor genes and the inhibition of oncogene activity. Epigenetic therapies may be used alone or in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Examples of epigenetic therapies currently in use or under development include DNA methylation inhibitors, histone deacetylase inhibitors, and inhibitors of enzymes involved in chromatin remodeling. These therapies have shown promising results in the treatment of various types of cancer, including leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors. Overall, the study of epigenetics in cancer has provided new insights into the mechanisms of cancer development and progression, and has led to the development of new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of this complex disease.
